So many were closed, some only had set menus, some were only doing lunch, some places never got back to me, blah blah blah.

At one point, I was even considering scrapping the idea and just having a dinner party! But then Sandra, the voice of reason, simply said: "You don't want to be doing dishes on your birthday, just pick somewhere in Crown".

Bang, problem solved. So, next on my list was No. I had been to No. However, the menu looked good and when I googled it, I found quite a few positive posts from different bloggers.

All of the posts I found were write-ups of invited complimentary meals to showcase the new chef, so it's hard to say how closely the service they received would mirror what an ordinary punter would get.

However, lots of the posts were by bloggers who I've been following for a while, and whose food opinions I trust I Eat Therefore I Am , Iron Chef Shellie , The Chronicles of Ms I-Hua and The Boy , I'm So Hungreee , Poppet's Window and most importantly - the pictures of the food all looked good!

So, with all that out of the way, let's talk about our meal! We start with some very good beer and wheat bread, with butter.

Made by Ed's Breads. I generally prefer a crustier bread, but we all still really enjoyed this. Beer and wheat bread Cocktails!

I was in heaven! To go with the beautiful dish is a glass of Pinot Noir from Bannockburn A. It was fruity and light, and definitely complimented this rich duck!

He is a pinot noir fan! The duck breasts were sitting on smooth shallot puree with crunchy, fresh asparagus and peas, I could seriously eat this all night long!

The lamb had no lamb-ey taste if you know what I mean haha , which is the reason why I stay away from lamb. Being braised for 12 hours, it was really tender and is also one of the featured dishes at No.

It was served with bush spice quinoa yum! And no matter how full you are, I truly believe, there is always room for dessert!

They are to-die-for! There were two options to choose from and I decided to go for the one I thought and sounded healthier.

It was everything I thought it would be and more! The vibrant colours of the seasonal fruits -lychees, blueberries, grapefruit and mango, contrasting the creamy yoghurt and honey mousse.

Not to mention, all the fruits on the plate are my favourite! Finishing off with freeze dried raspberries! Before I got to dig in, a syrup was poured on and everything was gone within 5 minutes!

How good does this look? When it was placed on the table, it was love at first sight! This was definitely nothing like the old school banana split with the napoleon ice cream.

This was WAY WAY WAY better! A beautifully rum caramelised baby banana served on homemade banana bread and sprinkled with toasted hazelnuts.

Each dish was well presented and tasted as good as it looked. Both the food and drink were of exceptional quality and perfectly matched. I enjoyed some of the nicest wines that day and was really quite impressed.

Apart from the company, it was our waiter who made my experience so enjoyable. We had the same waiter throughout the meal — a must in my eyes — and not only was he friendly and charming to chat to, he was so knowledgeable when it came to what he was serving.

This was definitely nothing like the Kogamma school banana split with the napoleon ice cream. Just ask anyone at the table. So what are you waiting for? His passion is definitely inspiring! It was really really interesting.

I had been to No. 8 about four times previously, and almost always enjoyed it, but hadn't visited since new Chef John Lawson came on board.
